Luther H. Blount urged travelers to do this in 1966 when he opened the doors to American Canadian Caribbean Line and, as a result, the waterways to North America’s less-traveled ports. This quote came to symbolize what made his small ship company stand apart from the rest …then and now.

Luther Blount loved adventure. As the owner of a shipyard, he often personally delivered recently-built boats to his clients just so he could explore another part of the world. After transiting the Panama Canal to deliver new boats to Chile, Mexico and Peru in the 1960s and 1970s, he developed cruise itineraries to Belize and the Panama Canal in the 1980s and 1990s- some of which are still running today.

A legendary American ship designer, Blount envisioned travelers getting closer to a destination and thereby closer to experiencing away. With no more than 96 guests onboard, passengers relished the hassle-free absence of crowds. And his one-of-a-kind vessels complete with patented designs and innovations like bow ramps and retractable pilot houses, allowed them to get as close as possible to adventure. Luther’s travelers could land directly on a beach or shoreline and their ship could cruise through the Erie Canal when no other cruise lines could. What made us different then is what makes us different today.

ACCL has changed its name to Blount Small Ship Adventures, but our mission remains the same. Like Luther, our hope is that travelers will go a little further, see a little more, and truly experience away.
