Day 1 - Welcome Dinner
Wednesday, May 08, 2013
After a much needed nap, we met the rest of the Tauck group in the hotel lobby at 6:30pm for the short motorcoach ride to the famous restaurant, Le Fouquet, on the Champs Elysee. This restaurant has a storied reputation as "the" place for dining for French movie stars and political figures. I was told by one of our guides that former French President, Mr. Sarkozy, had held his victory celebration at this restaurant.

Le Fouquet is one of the premier restaurants in Paris

We entered Le Fouquet through a private entrance and had to climb several stairs to a large dining room on the second level. Tables were dressed with white linen tablecloths and adorned with crystal and more silverware than I knew what to do with! Some delicious cheese breadsticks were passed around our table of ten, an indication of the wonderful items yet to come. A glass of champagne awaited each person. Bottled water was provided and a white wine selection was poured first followed by a red with the meat course. A plate of three small appetizer bites was already set at each place and were delicious. Each person had a roll set on their bread plate and it was some of the best bread I've ever tasted. Next came a plate of Foie Gras which was rich and tasty. The main course was Beef Bourguignon, tender and delicious. Dessert was a flaky multi-layered pastry with a serving of raspberry sorbet. If all this was not enough, a plate of chocolate and cookies arrived next. The entire experience was enhanced by a trio providing delightful musical entertainment. It was a great evening and a good start to our Tauck journey.

After dinner, we were treated to a trip to the Eiffel Tower to see it illuminated as it is each night. It was a beautiful sight and the perfect ending to our first night in Paris.
